Los Angeles Mission is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. We have developed this Donor Privacy Policy to communicate to our donors how their information will be collected and used. Los Angeles Mission also provides this Donor Privacy Policy to make you aware of our privacy policies, to help you learn more about the information we collect, how we use it, and how it helps us better serve you as together we change lives in the name of Christ. We also provide you with information on removing your name from our mailing list, if you wish to do so.

Your privacy and security are important to us. Whether you’re making a donation, signing up to volunteer or interacting with Los Angeles Mission in other ways, we want you to know that your information is safe with us.


While changing lives in our community is our ultimate goal, the privacy and security of our donors is our highest priority. The work we do would not be possible without supporters like you. We strive to ensure that our donation processes are always user-friendly and secure.

When you give to Los Angeles Mission online, in person or by mail, it’s likely that you’ll voluntarily share certain personally identifying information with us. We will never sell, rent, or trade your personally identifying information with any third parties except as provided for in this Donor Privacy Policy. Specifically, there are certain instances where it is necessary to share this information with trusted and verified third-party vendors (bound to contractual confidentiality) to complete transactions and to keep you informed about things happening at Los Angeles Mission based on your communication preferences.

Adoption of Donor Bill of Rights

Los Angeles Mission subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights, which was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits.

Donor Bill of Rights*

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  • 1.

    To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

  • 2.

    To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

III. To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.

    To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

  • 2.

    To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.

  • 3.

    To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.

VII. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.

VIII. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.

    To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.

    To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

Personally Identifying Information

During your interactions with us in person, through the mail or online, you may decide to give us personally identifying contact information such as your name, organization/church, email address, street address, and phone number. We collect this information to better serve you through answering questions, responding to your requests, receiving donations, maintaining records of giving history, contacting you about future events and services in which you may be interested, maintaining online accounts, and for tax purposes. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personally identifying information with any third parties except as provided for in this Donor Privacy Policy.

Credit Card and Bank Information

When you give to Los Angeles Mission, you may voluntarily give us bank or credit card information to process your transaction. This information may include your credit card number, expiration date, and billing information. The safety and security of your banking and/or credit card information is our top priority. We work with trusted third-party payment processors who conform to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI) for receiving and processing your financial transactions. Along with these companies, we conform to all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations required to receive and process information regarding your donations. The companies we work with to process credit card transactions have passed a Level 1 PCI DSS audit, and their compliance can be verified by Visa.

How Information is Used

Los Angeles Mission uses your information to understand your needs and provide you with better service. Specifically, we use your information to help you complete a transaction, communicate with you, and update you on ministry happenings. Credit card numbers are used only for donation or payment processing, and are not retained for other purposes. We use your comments to provide you with information you request, and we take seriously your recommendations about how we can improve our communication with you.

No Sharing of Personal Information

Los Angeles Mission will not sell, rent, or trade your personally identifying information with other organizations except as provided for in this Donor Privacy Policy. We assure you that the identity of all our donors is kept confidential. Use of donor information will be limited to the internal purposes of Los Angeles Mission, and only to further the ministry activities and purposes of Los Angeles Mission. Specifically, there are certain instances where it is necessary to share this information with trusted and verified third-party vendors (bound to contractual confidentiality) to complete transactions and to keep you informed about things happening at Los Angeles Mission based on your communication preferences.

We also collect information concerning how you heard about Los Angeles Mission, as well as other information you wish to share. This may include your questions, comments, suggestions, and your request to receive periodic updates. To individuals who request it, we will send periodic mailings related to specific fundraising campaigns, prayer concerns, and newsletters.

Removing Your Name From Our Mailing List

 We do not wish to send unwanted mail to our donors. When you voluntarily give us personally identifying contact information such as an email address, street address, or phone number, we may choose to send you information about Los Angeles Mission events and services, and opportunities to volunteer or donate. However, you are welcome to contact us to adjust the types of communications you receive.

Please contact us if you wish to be removed from our mailing list, or if you would like to update your contact information such as email or street address. Third-Party Donor Data Management

To best serve you, we work with a trusted third-party company and use their software to track, manage, and update your personally identifying information, communication and donation history, mailing and communication preferences, and credit card and bank information for processing donations. This company keeps a secure copy of our database to help us best respond to your requests, manage the processing of your donation, and continue to improve your experience with Los Angeles Mission.

 Third-Party Payment Processing

We use a third-party payment processor to process financial donations to Los Angeles Mission. When you make donations to Los Angeles Mission, we may transfer certain information (including personally identifying information such as your name, address, and credit card and/or bank information) to these payment processors for the sole purpose of facilitating the financial transaction. The companies we work with to process credit card transactions have passed a Level 1 PCI DSS audit.

 Marketing and Mailings

We may share your personally identifying information (including your name, address, phone number, email address, or donation history) with trusted third-party companies (bound to contractual confidentiality) for the sole purpose of creating mailings and marketing material such as receipts, reminder letters, and other special updates from Los Angeles Mission.

If you sign up for one of our email lists, we will only send you the information you have requested.

Third Party Sites & Legal Requirements

 Other third party websites accessible through our website have their own privacy policies and data collection practices, use and disclosure practices. We are not responsible for the policies or practices of third parties and make no warranties or representations whatsoever about such practices. You should contact these third parties directly if you have any questions about the use of the information that they collect.

Occasionally we may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide personally identifiable information to appropriate governmental authorities. We will disclose personally identifiable information upon receipt of a court order, subpoena, or to cooperate with a law enforcement investigation. We fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who use our services for illegal activities. We reserve the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we in good faith believe to be unlawful.

Donor Database Co-ops

In order to invite new donors to help support the work of the Mission and to better understand and cater content to our current supporters, we participate in various non-profit co-ops. These co-ops share information about the donation habits of supporters of various non-profit organizations.

If you do not already appear in the co-op databases, we will not share or add your personally identifying information to the co-op databases. However, if your personally identifying information already appears in the co-op databases, basic information about your giving habits with the Los Angeles Mission, including frequency and donation amount, will be shared.

We never share your personally identifying information or credit card information with these donor database co-ops, and we never share any information about anyone who does not already appear in the database.

Other companies or non-profits with whom you have a relationship may contribute to the database, resulting in your information being added. However, if your personally identifying information, such as address, phone number, or email is available in the database, it was not added by the Los Angeles Mission.

At any time you have the right to request the Mission not to include your name in the co-op or to remove your name from the co-op by contacting the Mission Development Office at (213) 629-1227 ext. 400.


We may revise or modify this Donor Privacy Policy from time to time. Please review it periodically to ensure that you understand how we use and protect your information. By continuing to access our website or participate in donations and volunteer opportunities following any changes to this Donor Privacy Policy, you agree to any amendments and/or modifications.
