Mission Plans COVID-19 Observant Event

Easter Meal Friday April 2

WHAT:
Coronavirus has changed the way the Los Angeles Mission will celebrate Easter this year. No street closure. No outdoor dining area on Skid Row.
The traditional holiday meal will be distributed take-out style. Easter dinner on Good Friday, April 2nd. Lovely Heart Mission will distribute blankets and vegan rice packets. Easter baskets will also be distributed.
Los Angeles Mission will be partnering with Guardians of Love for its drive-through Easter Eggstravaganza in Crenshaw on the afternoon of April 2nd.
WHEN:
Friday, April 2, 2021
4 AM to 9 AM: Live trucks may park in Mission parking lot located at 316 Winston Street (immediately adjacent to the kitchen) – all vehicles must be moved off of the parking lot by 9 AM so serving area can be set up.
4:30 AM – Food preparation begins in the Mission kitchen. Chefs on site in early morning hours to help prepare the food.
Reporters welcome to join in food preparation with LA Mission kitchen crew with appropriate PPE and a negative COVID test.
6 AM – Early morning breakfast served to students.
                  Live shot opportunity – lots of food prep visuals
7 AM – Event tent set-up begins.
Breakfast burritos served to guests lining up for the event.
11 AM – Easter meal service begins. All meals served in take-out containers from a tent in the rear parking lot entrance at 316 Winston Street. Blankets and Easter baskets will be handed out there as well. More than a thousand meals will be served. The only event inside the building is food preparation.
3 PM – Event ends

WHERE:
Los Angeles Mission, 316 Winston Street, Los Angeles (Skid Row) CA 90013. This is the back gate entrance to the Mission.

MEDIA WILL BE ABLE TO OBSERVE AND COVER THE EVENT FROM WINSTON STREET WITHOUT ENTERING THE MISSION FACILITIES.

WHO:
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the number of volunteers is limited. Scheduled to attend 11-1 shift: Mayor Eric Garcetti, Nick Cannon, Edwin Hodge, Sam Humphrey, Kate Linder, Stacey Dash, former Mayor Antonio Villiaraigosa.
1-3 Shift: Shar Jackson, Momo Rodriguez.
