David Thomas Announcement
DAVID THOMAS, BELOVED Leader of THE Los Angeles Mission Kitchen HAS DIED
Los Angeles, California — Monday, April 12, 2021 — David Thomas, 61, who came up from the streets of Skid Row to lead the kitchen at the Los Angeles Mission, has been killed. No details of his death are available. It occurred away from Skid Row and the Mission property.
“It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of David Thomas,” said Troy Vaughn, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Mission. “He has been a valued member of our team since June 2, 2000 and will be sorely missed. Please keep David’s family in your thoughts and prayers, as they go through this difficult time.”
“The Mission lost an indefatigable spirit, a fun-loving and caring soul, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with David have lost a treasured friend and an inspiring mentor. David leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication, and his spirit will forever be infused in the fabric of the Mission’s DNA. The thought of not hearing him lead a prayer circle and shout out HALLELUJAH as only he could, leaves an empty place in each heart he touched. The Mission will be working with the family to plan a celebration worthy of David’s extraordinary life.
“No words can adequately express our sadness at David’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. Our hearts simply are broken by this unexpected and devastating news. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved to do so much by caring for our students, family and friends here at the Los Angeles Mission.
“Finally, David is now in the presence of the Lord – he has fought the good fight – he has finished his race – he has kept the faith. David, like his Biblical namesake was a man after God’s own heart. We are determined that no details of his death overshadow his incredible life.”
Further details of memorial services will be forthcoming.
